Heidenburger Hof

Culture, Scenery & Idyll

The Heidenburger Hof is located in the middle of the shallow hills and valleys of the Hunsrück. It is surrounded by meadows, fields and forests. These create an idyllic landscape that attracts visitors from many regions of the world.

History & Myths

The farm has a very long and mythical history behind it. People are said to have lived here as far back as the Stone Age. After all, there are springs right next to the farm, which make life here easier to this day. Due to its slight valley location, it is protected from the strongest winds. Celts and Gauls are also said to have lived here. The Romans even built a large settlement here, as evidenced by numerous finds. Finally, Emperor Constantine’s secret base in the small trading garrison in Neumagen-Dhron on the Moselle was only a few kilometers away. The „Hof“

There are six buildings on the site, spread over three complexes. There are two residential buildings in the north-west. These were built in 1938 by the grandson of the farm founder Mathias Sauer. To the northeast is the guesthouse. There are numerous accommodation options in this elegant building. It was built in 1909 and 1910. Next to the guest house is the Marienkapelle chapel, built in 1888. To the south of the grounds, at the bottom of the slope, is the third small complex, which dates back to the time of the new foundation and was built by Mathias Sauer in 1829. Next to it is the Culture barn, adjacent to the old half-timbered house.

The building complexes are surrounded by meadows, fields and forests. Together, these form an idyllic courtyard landscape. The small Mieseler Bach stream winds its way through this landscape and crosses the farm pond to the south. The source of the stream is located to the south of the farmstead.

To the north of the farm is the former location of the legendary old oak tree. In the deep and rocky Wackenwald forest there is a stone custom that was probably used to construct the farm buildings.
